Good kit for what it is... 3.5 stars
This is a really good kit if you know what to expect and don't need complete subtlety and super sensitivity. The pads don't have the greatest feel, but they work for rock/metal without tons of ghost notes and such. The pads do not really bounce like an actual drum and the drum rack doesn't offer a lot of setup options. There is a bit of crosstalk as well when you hit hard, so you will need to work with the settings on the trigger module. I purchased an extra kick pad for double bass and it works well, just use one of the additional inputs on the trigger module and program the proper midi note.
The hi-hat pedal is okay, but not completely responsive and I have found that it will often not release properly when opening the hat quickly. I have been working with the module to try to make the hi-hat controller work a bit better, but I haven't gotten it yet. I cannot promise that the problem is not me and that the hardware is not perfect.

Great Product but...
The Alesis USB drum kit is a great responsive, solid product but.... don't expect to play it as soon as you get it out of the box. Set up is a breeze, the manual is not too complicated to understand but getting it to work with your computer, figuring out if you have the right sound card, downloading multiple pieces of software, searching online for days on how to operate the software and trying to figure out how other people have gotten this thing to work (properly), that's where the problem is since there is very little instruction on how to do so. Other than that, the product is great and has superb triggering power.
Far Surpassed my Expectations
Let me preface this review by saying, in the past, I have mainly played on Roland V-Drums ($5k+ drum set). So, when I purchased this kit, I made sure I had the mindset that I couldn't compare this set to V-Drums. And while I don't think the two sets are on equal playing fields, this Alesis drum set has blown away my expectations. If you take the time to adjust all the settings, you can have a very responsive, and real feeling drum set.
Please note, the midi controller that comes with the unit, is simply that, a MIDI controller. It DOES NOT come with drum sounds. I find it astounding that people have complained about this fact (reading the product specifications makes this clear). Nonetheless, I figured I would clarify this point in my review as well. I run the Addictive Drums plug-in, through GarageBand, on my Macbook Pro. The plug-in offers superb, realistic, drum sounds. There is extremely low audio latency (so low I don't notice it). As soon as I hit the pad, I...
