A Nice Set of Mics!!!!
I needed a set of drum mics for a recording and live project. I had no idea what to expect. With a limited budget, I went out on a limb and figured....whatever, I could always send them back. The band was shocked at the clearity and how hot the condensers are!!! The drum kit just blew up with sound. Since my purchase, I have thoroughly enjoed this product and if you are on a budget, you can't beat these microphones for their cost!!!!

Only fair drum mics
From Jan's musician hubby with close to 30 years of fooling with mics and drums and a year with these in a hobby-studio environment: If you check the web and Musicians Friend web site you'll see complaints about the poor bass drum mic that comes with this kit and they are correct. It takes a lot of work and EQ-ing to get a decent bass drum sound with the Bass drum mic in this kit and even then it's only so so.
We actually got a better slap from an SM57! The tom and snare mics are a little dead in the mid-range, making the toms sound like cardboard boxes unless you know what youre doing and boost the snot out of the low-mids and mids and cut the highs way back. A plus though, they have good clips that dont fall off the drum. The condensers in the kit are small and tend to saturate with high noise level inputs like cymbal crashes unless you use the "pad" feature on them but are ok for less energetic signals like an acoustic guitar, conga drum, tambourine, etc. Bottom line: This kit...
Good Build Quality, Poor Kick Sound
I have had a set of these mics for years and here is my overall impression of this kit.
The kick drum microphone is DEAD. Weak attack, and boomy bottom end. You can get a good sound from it by EQing it pretty intensely and since I have a digital mixing board I was able to route this thru a subgroup and apply a graphic EQ and some compression to it to get it sounding really good. Even with all of that, its attack is weak and requires some creative positioning in the kick to get a good sound out of it. I'm talking 4-6" from
The overheads sound really good with the Pad Switch and Low EQ roll-off engaged. Cymbals are crisp and detailed, even captures mid range toms quite well. Bells on rides are thick and crashes are solid. The overheads really cut thru the mix fairly well.
I use the snare mic on the bottom side of the snare, and use a SM57 on the top to get the attack I want. Just couldn't work with the snare mic in this kit by itself. Not enough...
